In the Pavillion of the gardens of Cecilio Rodríguez in Madrid’s Retiro park, the presentation of Destino Sevilla, 18th Bienal de Flamenco 2014 took place.  Presided over by the mayor of Seville, Juan Ignacio Zoido, many political personalities, flamenco artists and representatives of tourism, culture and the media were present.

At the same time, the gala inauguration show was presented, a production of the Bienal de Flamenco which is scheduled to open the 2014 edition on September 12th at the Maestranza Theater.

“Estamos Vivos de Milagro. Granada-Sevilla-Nueva York” is the name of this show that includes many artists such as singers Estrella Morente, Carmen Linares, El Pele, Arcángel, Juan José Amador, Soleá Morente and Enrique Morente Carbonell, dancers Israel Galván, Javier Latorre and Belén Maya and guitarists Pepe Habichuela, Alfredo Lagos and Dani de Morón.  The group Proyecto Lorca will also take part in the gala.  The show, in the words of the mayor, “was conceived as an in-depth rundown of the important legacy of Enrique Morente, to honor his professional career.  Musical pieces of the artist, along with new material will offer the opportunity to achieve a better understanding of this renovator of flamenco with a work that even after his passing, will spread his influence.  Morente, artistically and socially was a mover and a shaker, always open to dialogue with other kinds of music, and ready to accept avant-garde forms of expression”.

In its 34 years of history, the Bienal de Flamenco has included the participation of Enrique Morente in its official programs.  In 1986 at the Hotel Triana he participated with the show “El Oriente del Sur: Granada”, along with Tía María Habichuela, Luis el Polaco, José Luis Postigo and the Gypsies of Sacromonte.  In 1992 he gave a concert with Max Roach at the Maestranza Theater, in 1996 the Lope de Vega was the venue for “Noche de Escalofrío”, and in 1998, “Poema de Cante Jondo”.  The new decade opened at the Olympic Stadium to wrap up the edition of 2000.  He also took part in Israel Galván’s show “Arena” and again closed the Bienal at the Maestranza with a gala show in 2008.

The participation of Manuela Carrasco and Miguel Poveda at the Bienal was also announced.  At the present time they are working on a joint show that will be an absolute world premiere at the 2014 edition; more details are expected in the coming weeks.

The official presentation in Madird, was attended by flamenco artists such as Dorantes, Farruquito, Arcángel, José Valencia, Merche Esmeralda, Manuela Carrasco, Olga Pericet, Joaquín Amador, Marcos Flores, Daniel Doña, Manuel Liñán and Concha Jareño among others, who wanted to be present for the occasion.
