With
each passing day flamenco becomes a more universal art. While some people
are arguing about which family from which street in which city you have
to come from, along comes the Company of Mami and Hiro from Japan with
their latest work which is to be presented Sunday at the Villamarta Theater
no less.
Backed up by Spanish artists such as singers Antonio Malena, Mateo Soleá
and Manuel de Malena, guitarists Santiago Moreno, Malena hijo and Curro
de Jerez and the palmas of Luis de la Tota, on Sunday the venerable Jerez
theater will receive the first non-Spanish group that participated in
the Festival de Jerez, a historic event that took place in 2004 with the
work “Sonekazi”. Now they company returns to present their
most flamenco creation to date, “Arte y Solera”, which won
the highest prize at Japan’s Festival de Arte last year. The show
is the Japanese artists’ tribute to Spain and to Jerez.
