On October 5th dancer Rafael Amargo was awarded the Estrellas del Flamenco prize from Corral de la Morería, and the autumn program of shows at the tablao was presented. Dancers who will be seen this season include Concha Jareña, Soraya Clavijo, Manuel Liñán and Inmaculada Ortega.
Within the activities in honor of the Madrid tablao's 50th anniversary,
the prize is being awarded to current flamenco artists with special ties
to Corral de la Morería. Such is the case of Rafael Amargo whose
early years in Madrid were spent at the tablao. “Don Manuel really
loved me” he says. “In the beginning I told him I didn't know
if I was going to be good enough, but I wanted to dance, and he told me
I would be fine because I had courage. Corral is a temple where I learned
to be brave enough to make a mistake”
AUTUMN PROGRAM
In the fall program, Corral continues to support “youthful talented
artists who do flamenco without depersonalizing it, because there is little
public support and Corral feels the obligation to give a chance to those
starting out in this art” says Blanca del Rey.

Concha Jareño (October 1 – 15 octubre)
is grateful for the opportunity to be soloist at Corral and says she was
part of the cuadro early in her career. Jerez dancer Soraya Clavijo
(October 16 – November 15) was unable to attend the press
conference as she is currently touring Japan and Taiwan. This is going
to be the first time she dances in Madrid. She has danced at the Festival
de Jerez and the Bienal de Flamenco.
November 16 – 30, Manuel Liñán and Olga
Pericet will take over from Soraya. Says Liñán,
“I'm proud to dance at Corral where flamenco can be seen in a much
more intimate way, it's the essence, very intense”.
In December Jerez dancer Inmaculada Ortega will be
featured with Pablo Cervantes. Throughout the season Fridays and Saturdays
are reserved for the dancing of Blanca del Rey.
