CULTURAL PRIZES ANNOUNCED FOR THE FIFTH FESTIVAL OF LA UNIÓN, 2004

Festival de Cante de las Minas de La Unión.

The
prizes, which are honorary and not remunerated, consist of a trophy called
«Minera, Cartagenera y Taranta» by Dora Catarineu which is
a reproduction of the original situated in La Unión near the Cathedral
of Cante.

The winners for this fifth edition are as follows:

Essays and books: For the book
«Camarón, life and work» by José Manuel
Gamboa and Faustino Núñez, and the book «Paco
de Lucía» by Juan José Téllez.

Journalism: For Estela Zatania for work
published on the Internet webpage www.deflamenco.com, and
for the book: «Monsters, 28 interviews with famous flamenco artists»
by Antonio Arco, illustrated with photographs by Paco Sánchez.

Visual arts: For Pedro Serna for his pictoric work devoted
to flamenco.

Discographic production: For the five-volume anthology
devoted to the Festival Internacional del Cante de las Minas by Spanish
Radio & Television (RTVE).

Investigation: For Lola Fernández Marín’s
book
«Teoría Musical del Flamenco», and Luis F. Leal
Pinar’s book «Guitarreros Andaluces».

Instructional material: For the book «Aprendemos
a leer con arte», a literacy aid for adults created by a multi-disciplinary
team at the Albolete (Granada) provincial penitentiary, and the record
with book
«Comprende el flamenco» by Faustino Núñez.

The awards are to be presented Saturday August 7th at 8:20 pm in the
Salón de Usos Múltiples of Cajamurcia, the cultural hall
of the Museo Minero de La Unión.
