From February 19th to May 19th, a total of 24 shows with 41 performances interpreted by 33 artists will make the rounds of the capitals of Andalusia within the framework of Flamenco Viene del Sur.
| The program which has been unveiled in Seville by the Culture representative, covers the ambitious objectives the organization has sought since the beginning of this venture thirteen years ago. There are new shows to capture new audiences thanks to the diversity that comes from performers of varying orientation and approach. Another goal is to cultivate a program that is not subject to high and low seasons, but which offers quality shows all throughout the year on a permanent basis.
The organization wishes to support the work and creativity, not only of young people such as José Valencia, Jesús Méndez, Laura Vital, Encarna Anillo, David Lagos, Melchora Ortega, Pedro Ricardo Miño, Pastora Galván, El Junco, Marcos Vargas y Chloé Brûlé, María José Franco, Rafael Estévez, Nani Paños, Rafael Campallo and Adela Campallo, but also consolidated veterans like singers Mariana Cornejo, José de la Tomasa, Calixto Sánchez, Luis de Córdoba and Mayte Martín, dancers Javier Barón, Pepa Montes and Belén Maya and guitarists Paco Cepero, Moraíto, José Antonio Rodríguez and Cañizares, all of whom will be seen in this year’s edition. This rich assortment is the result of a public call for proposals, and a selection process that took place from among more than two-hundred projects that were presented. At Seville’s Teatro Central, dancer Rafael Campallo opens on February 23rd with his work “Puente de Triana”, and on the previous day, at Granada’s Teatro Alhambra, Pepa Montes will present “Flamenco Universal”. Other venues include Málaga’s Teatro Cánovas, the Gran Teatro Falla of Cádiz and the Gran Teatro of Córdoba. For the first time ever, seven of the shows of Flamenco Viene del Sur will be retransmitted live via internet. There will also be important activities in Madrid with another series, “Andalucía Flamenca”, with seven recitals throughout 2010 that will take place at the Auditorio Nacional de Música. The series kicks off with Gerardo Núñez’ and his group. Other participating artists include pianist Pedro Ricardo Miño, guitarist Cañizares, singers Mariana Cornejo, Encarna Anillo, Calixto Sánchez, Rocío Márquez, Luis de Córdoba, Jesús Méndez and Mayte Martín.
