After a lengthy recording silence, this singer from Jerez has put out a new album with Nuevos Medios, produced by Ricardo Pachón, the same person who made her record 'Jérez/Xères/Sherry' for the same label some years back.

Tomasa Guerrero “La Macanita” (Jerez de la Frontera, 1968) debuted as solo singer in 1983 at the Hotel Jerez. Then came the wonderful recordings of villancicos with the Chorus of the Cátedra de Flamencología, and thus began a series of recordings of unquestionable quality: “Con el alma”, “Jerez-Xères-Sherry” and “A la Luna de Tomasa”, just to name a few. Other highpoints of her career were her appearance in Carlos Saura’s film “Flamenco”, and her interpretation of La Niña de los Peines in the show “100 Años de Cante” at the 8th Bienal de Sevilla. Today, Macanita is the queen of the soleá, and a favorite with flamenco fans who enjoy authentic gypsy compás and voice, and well-delivered popular poetry. “Sólo por Eso” is a record made to please and to keep you company, where Macanita makes use of all the heavy artillery of contemporary flamenco. The repertoire is rich and varied; there are never-before-heard pieces by the late Carlos Lencero such as “Cobre Viejo”, his moving tribute to the great Chocolate. Also, magnificent composition by Jerez singer Terremoto, the bulerías “Volver a Verte”, and tangos titled “Déjame Volar”. There are impressive versions of two songs each of which defines specific eras of flamenco: “Maldigo tus Ojos Verdes”, popularized by Paquera, and the ultimate Cádiz song, “Cái” by Alejandro Sanz. In the most traditional pieces, the guitar of Manuel Parrilla shines, and in the modern material, a wonderful Andalusian combo made up of guitarists Diego del Morao, Charly Cepeda and Andrés “El Pájaro”, bass-player Manolo Nieto, percussionist Jimmy González and the multitalented Álvaro Gandul (piano, harmonica and accordion). Everything cooked up with tender loving care by producer Ricardo Pachón.
