Etnosur is gearing up for the celebration of its coming of age.  The Ethnic Encounters will be 18 years old on July 18th, and to mark the occasion, composer, producer, flamenco guitarist and proponent of the Cuban tres in flamenco, Raúl Rodríguez, is preparing an extravaganza that will not easily be forgotten.

“Razón de Son”, in the words of Raúl Rodríguez, “is a show that seeks to expand the soundtrack starting from the rediscovery of a multiracial dynamic territory that led to the creation of a deeply diversified aesthetic language as inherited from the cultural mix of Afro-Caribbean colonies and the southern Spanish ports of Seville and Cádiz between the 16th and 19th centuries, to lay out a show with new songs and reinterpretations of Afrohispanic dances, in the frontier language represented by the Cuban tres, a new instrument that conjugates the beat and the music, and which opens up the possibilities of finding the route to a new flamenco sound.

Along with him will be Aleix Tobías Sabater on drums and percussion, Guillem Aguilar, on bass and mandola, Mario Mas, on flamenco guitar and lute and an assortment of guest artists including the noteworthy participation of the Coetus orchestra of Iberian percussion.  EtnoSur continues to support artists from the province of Jaén as demonstrated by the inclusion of Kata Kanona’s dance company who will appear on the stage of EtnoSur as part of the show.
