'El cante en movimiento', new recording by Rafael Jiménez FALO.

The Asturian singer presents his most recent work fifteen years after making his first record in the United States.

Falo belongs to the generation of flamenco artists who have placed their bets on the remodelling of flamenco starting from the purest roots.

On this record, as in the previous one, Falo takes the intrinsic beauty of traditional cante as a reference, and respecting the original melodies, he reinterprets them and tries to enrich them by adding new melodic turns and shading, with the goal of creating something suited to today’s audiences.

The use of new instruments, harmonies and audio contexts also comes from this desire to update and infuse new life into little-used forms and cantes, while at the same time enhancing their essence.

The record consists of nine “movements”.  In the first, “La Nieve y la Rosa”, Falo again sings popular Asturian songs to bulerías.  The album also has some tangos that hark back to melodies and rhythmic forms of fado, used by Portuguese and Extremaduran flamenco interpreters, and which Falo has been hearing since childhood.  There are many tributes: to Manuel Vallejjo, to José de los Reyes El Negro, to Enrique el Mellizo (with a song recorded live), to Joaquín el de la Paula, to Agustín and Juan Talega, to Manolito de María and La Andonda among others, in honor of their creative efforts and the legacy that has come down to us.

The record will be presented this Saturday, October 22nd, at the Café Cantante of the Casa Patas Foundation, Cañizares Street, no. 10, 1st floor, at 10:00pm (doors will open at 9:15).  Tickets: 10 euros.

Rafael Jiménez Falo will be accompanied on guitar by Flavio Rodrigues, with the piano of Pablo Suárez and the cello of José Luis López among others.
