Septiembre es Flamenco

Septiembre es Flamenco

The off-years of the Bienal, the odd-numbered years, the Seville municipal government is holding the series “Septiembre es Flamenco”.

The new series will take place at the Torre de Don Fadrique, the Alcázar, the Teatro Lope de Vega and the Teatro de la Maestranza, opening with the Giraldillo Prizes 2014 and closing with Eva Yerbabuena.

The program is scheduled to take place over 13 days, from September 8th to 20th.

There are also shows for children with the objective of cultivating new audiences.

Four venues were chosen for this event, and the Torre de Don Fadrique located at the Espacio Santa Clara, central headquarters of the Bienal, will again be repurposed for flamenco.

El Real Alcázar de Sevilla participates with a program of its own. The Patio de la Montería, the Teatro Lope de Vega and the Teatro de la Maestranza will host, respectively, the inaugural gala with the Giraldillo prizes of the last Bienal de Flamenco. The winners were Manuel Valencia, the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía, Farruquito, Antonio Reyes, Rafael Riqueni, Miguel Ángel Cortés, El Lebrijano and, posthumously, Enrique Morente; and the closing, at the Teatro de la Maestranza is with Eva Yerbabuena and her work “Ay”, which debuted in London in 2013.

The program also includes shows at the Torre de Don Fadrique with Pastora Galván and Moratana, Ana Morales with Los Pasos Perdidos, Rancapino senior and Rancapino junior and their show Rancapinos, Antonio Rey in concert, and Andrés Marín who will present Carta Blanca.

The Real Alcázar will receive Arcángel y las Voces Búlgaras with the show Estruna; El Güito, El Potito and La Macanita will join forces for a night of song and dance; Joaquín Grilo, Jesús Méndez, Diego del Morao and Manuel Parrilla will present Jerez. José Menese, Argentina and Milagros Mengíbar will appear on the stage of the Patio de la Montería. Following their great success at the last Bienal de Flamenco, José de la Tomasa and the Orquesta Barroca de Sevilla return with Flamenco Sacro. This part of the series will be closed out by Aurora Vargas y Pansequito.

Also presented was the concert scheduled for May 29th of dancer Javier Barón. The Torre de Don Fadrique opens its flamenco series with the show titled Encuentro en el Baluarte, about which details will be forthcoming in a few days.

Flamenco y Patrimonio. This is the program which in the current year 2015 paves the way for the Bienal in the line of shows for children. The Torre de Don Fadrique Santa Clara convent will become representnatives of the historic artistic heritage of the city.

Flamenco y Patrimonio is structured in three parts. An exhibit titled Asómate a la Bienal, which will show the history of flamenco and how it is reflected in the Bienal; audiovisual material about the evolution of flamenco dance and singing; and a flamenco workshop for schoolchildren.
The exhibit shows the graphic history of the Bienal represented in posters, trophies awarded, the various venues where the shows are held and the existing images and videos of the history of this event.

The flamenco workshop titled El Duende de Santa Clara will be given by specialists who will give practical information about the forms, the cantes and the most significant dances of flamenco.

Flamenco y Patrimonio is aimed at primary schoolchildren, and will take place from May 20th to June 19th.
