Pansequito presents his new CD 'Un Canto a la Libertad' in Cádiz

José Cortés Jiménez, the singer who became famous overnight in 1974 with a recording that made history, and who would go on to receive a special prize for creativity from the Concurso de Córdoba, continues to be an important star in the current flamenco scene.

Nowadays, when record companies are struggling to keep afloat, and few things are riskier than a recording of flamenco singing, it is great news when one of the most admired singers of our time brings out a new record.  Under the direction of Diego Magallanes, in collaboration with Antonio Benítez Producciones and Bujío Producciones, with the support of various public intitutions, this new CD is a tribute to Cádiz and, as the title indicates, to freedom, “libertad”.

At the presentation, the singer from La Línea, raised in Puerto de Santa María, said he was at the best point of his artistic career, fully in command physically, and mature enough artistically to take advantage of those faculties..  He added that “Un Canto a la Libertad” is the best recording he's made, and Antonio Benítez explained that an intense promotional campaign is planned. Pansequito took advantage of the moment to emphasize the necessity of having a good foundation of knowledge in order to create and credibly contribute to the evolution of flamenco.

The record includes the outstanding collaboration of people like Niño de Pura, Moraíto, Diego de Morao, Raimundo Amador, Las Peligros, Antonio Reyes and Pansequito's popular wife Aurora Vargas.  Miguel Poveda is also guest artist on a bulería song Pansequito described as very typically Cádiz.  The recording includes the singer's specialties, soleá, alegrías, seguiriyas and taranto, as well as the novelty of fandangos de Huelva, which he has recorded here for the first time.
