Medalla de Oro en las Bellas Artes

Yesterday the official presentation of the Medallas de Oro al Mérito en las Bellas Artes 2014 (gold medals for lifetime achievement in the arts) were awarded as decided last February 6th, 2015. Among those honored, were Manolo Sanlúcar, El Güito and María Pagés.

The Medallas de Oro de las Bellas Artes, chosen by the government of Spain as proposed by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, distinguish those people and entities who have stood out “in a particularly significant way” in artistic creation, “via specific services or promoting education and development of the arts, or the preservation of national artistic patrimony”.

Guitarist Manuel Muñoz, “Manolo Sanlúcar”, (Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Cádiz, 1943), who announced his retirement in July of 2013; dancer and choreographer María Pagés, holder of the National Prize for Dance, and dancer/choreographer Eduardo Serrano “El Güito” (Madrid, 1942).
