Enrique Morente and Tomatito open the 16th Festival Flamenco Ciutat Vella

“De Perlas” is the title chosen this year for the festival scheduled to be held May 19th to 23rd in Barcelona, on the 30th anniversary of the Taller de Musics, organizer of the festival since its beginnings, an event which has come a long way and is full of life, being one of the most important cultural events of Barcelona and flamenco.

Innovation, risk, taking a chance with new talent and programming seasoned veterans, these are the characteristics of the festival and the secret to its success, as well unanimous recognition from the world of flamenco. Different, special, a must-see, from May 16th to 23rd, at the CCCB. Flamenco fans in Barcelona and out-of-towners can now begin reserving tickets for the Ciutat Vella festival.

Highlights include the voices of Macanita and Esperanza Fernández, the dancing of Isabel Bayón, María Pagés and the couple Toni el Pelao and La Uchi, as well as Pastora Galván and Joaquín Grilo accompanying the piano of Dorantes.

There are two independent stages within the CCCB: the Hall, which this year brings novelty of maestros Enrique Morente and Tomatito together, which is bound to be a historic encounter. In the same venue on following days, El Duende, Simón Román, Silvia Pérez, Paula Domínguez and Jesús Mendez are slated to perform. The main stage, Pati de les Dones, will receive Dolores de los Santos “Agujetas” and José Miguel Cerro “Chiqui”. After performances on the main stage, around midnight, there will also be shows related to a less conventional sort of flamenco, with disk jockeys, the group Rumba Vella and the well-known Catalonian group, the Papawa All-Stars.
