20th FESTIVAL ARTE FLAMENCO

Mont-de-Marsan (France) July 7-12, 2008

This twentieth edition of the prestigious Mont-de-Marsan festival has put together an ambitious program of high quality.

The inaugural gala scheduled to take place on July 7th is the work “A Cuatro Voces” by the great dancer Eva Yerbabuena.  On the following day, with the focus still on dance, young Rosario Toledo presents “Aires de Cádiz”, and later in the evening there is a cante recital with veteran singer Susi.

Wednesday July 9th also features big stars.  On guitar, Niño de Pura and Manolo Franco, two true maestros, two concepts in harmony, followed by the spectacular dancer from Morón de la Frontera, Juan de Juan and his company.  Thursday brings Jerez artists Andrés Peña and Pilar Ortega, and later that day, the singing of José de la Tomasa and Juan Peña el Lebrijano in a friendly facing-off.

An extraordinary show is planned for Friday the 11th.  With the participation of more than 30 artists from Andalucia, most of whom have already performed in previous editions of the Mont-de-Marsan festival, “De la Mar al Fuego” is a co-production of the Festival, the Seville provincial government and the Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla, a great celebration of the two decades since the festival came into being.

There is also a diverse program of parallel activities, most notably the publication of a book written expressly for the occasion and which presents the perspective of two writers, one Spanish and one French.  A retrospective photograph exhibit of the festival, conferences by José María Velázquez-Gaztelu, Estela Zatania, Pierre Lefranc and Juan Manuel Suárez Japón, open-air shows, courses and master classes with artists such as Milagros Mengíbar, Pastora Galván, Juan José Jaén “El Junco” and Andrés Peña among others, round out this very complete program.
