A great melting
pot of inspiration and beauty
From the noblest flamenco lineage comes this young, versatile
musician, David Peña, son of Pedro Peña, nephew
of Juan Peña el Lebrijiano, grandson of La Perrata,
and the interminable list of famous artists those names imply.
But Dorantes feels music in another way, with compositions
inspired in the flamenco which has surrounded him since childhood.
Four years after producing his first work “Orobroy”,
Dorantes now presents his new creation “Sur”, recorded
in Seville, Paris and Sofia, Bulgaria. In the course of the
recital he offered ten pieces where his concept of flamenco
blended with such diverse influences as Celtic, Brazilian,
classical, Bulgarian and jazz – fusion carried to its experimental
extremes, but always at the service of great music as a finality
which is never compromised.
Dorantes was not entirely happy with the piano that had been
provided, but for those of us in the audience this did not
seem to affect his brilliant interpretaion of such beautiful
compositions as “Caravana de los Zincalí”,
“Batir de alas” or “A ritmo de berza”,
at times with the help of his cousin Esperanza Fernández
such as in “Di, di Ana”, in addition to such noteworthy
musicians as Nacho Gil or Tino di Geraldo and the Sur chamber
orchestra plus palmeros from Jerez, all blended in a great
melting pot of inspiration and beauty.
