XXXVI Reunión de cante jondo de la Puebla de Cazalla

Saturday, July 10th, 2004 11:00pm. Patio de la Fuenlonguilla

Another
veteran cante festival is coming up Saturday, July 10th. Thirty-six editions
place the beginnings of the Reunión de Cante Jondo de La Puebla
de Cazalla around the late nineteen-sixties when Antonio Mairena was busy
teaching flamenco fans to appreciate a kind of cante that was less cloying
and more flamenco than that which had reigned for decades during the “opera
flamenca”. Poet and painter Francisco Moreno Galván decided
to educate his town along the same lines, and an important part of his
legacy is this festival, different from all the rest because of its dignity
and respect for tradition.

Following in the new line of festivals, the previous week included conferences,
film projections, a guitar recital and a series titled “Jornadas
de flamenco para jóvenes” (flamenco for young people).

On Friday July 9th at 10:00pm there will be a cante recital in the Patio
de la Ermita with the cante of El Vareta accompanied by guitarist Eduardo
Rebollar, and the program for the festival which will take place the following
day is as follows:
