XIV BIENAL DE FLAMENCO – Seville, 2006

The fourteenth edition of the Bienal de Flamenco will get underway on September 13th 2006, striaght through to October 15th. This new edition of flamenco’s most important event will include seven different venues: the Real Alcázar, the Lope de Vega theater, the Maestranza, the Teatro Alameda, the Teatro Central, the Auditorio de Sevilla and the Hotel Triana

The
Real Alcázar de Sevilla will hold the opening night and the Teatro
Maestranza is the stage for the closure. The Alameda continues to be the
venue for “Flamenco for Children” with daytime shows planned
for Seville schoolchildren and sessions open to the general public where
young artists can develop their works. These shows are programed over
a period of two weeks, from September 26th to October 7th.

The Seville Auditorium will receive three large shows on three consecutive
Saturdays: September 23rd, 30th and October 7th. The Hotel Triana has
a show scheduled for each Friday. The core of the offerings will be presented
at the Lope de Vega theater and the Teatro Central on Cartuja Island.

The fourteenth edition of the Bienal de Flamenco is returning to the
concept of dedicating each edition to a particular specialty, in this
case, DANCE.

The 2006 Bienal is supported by every public cultural institution in
Seville. In addition to the Ayuntamiento, the Junta de Andalucía,
the Diputación de Sevilla (which will bring shows to the entire
province) and the Culture Ministry are participating in a greatly expanded
way, both economically and institutionally.

The Bienal will span 28 days of activitiy with 29 shows in 53 presentations.

This edition will also incluye a wide range of parallel activities designed
by a commission of experts. Commemorative publications, recitals, exhibits,
academic activities and screenings among other activities fill out the
2006 program of the Bienal which will extend throughout the city making
Seville the hub of flamenco beginning the end of next May and going straight
through to the opening of the main program.

Tickets will be on sale starting in May and will be overseen by an operador
with local, national and international reach.

Considering that negotiations are not closed, the official announcement of the program for the 2006 Bienal may take place in January

Towards the end of January the Bienal will begin a campaign of international
promotion in cities throughout Spain, Europe, North and South America
as well as Japan and China. The presentation of the new webpage www.bienal-flamenco.org
is also slated for this month and the web includes the novelty of containing
audiovisual files of the Bienal from its very first editions. The surfer
will be able to see and hear 30-second clips of shows which have made
up the Bienal de Flamenco over the last 25 years.
