XII Flamenco Festival Berlin

August 10th to 18th, 2007

Holland has its brand-new Bienal de Flamenco…. then there’s the Flamenco Festival USA and London, the Geneva Festival, France’s Nimes Festival, or those of Italy, Japan…It’s been a long time since flamenco broke out of the backrooms and cafés, and today it’s as universal as Italian opera o Russian ballet. And Germany is not about to be left behind. In August, Spain’s northern neighbors will celebrate the twelfth Flamenco Festival of Berlin, an ambitious project which, like others of its kind, has a complete program to satisfy a wide range of tastes and generations, with dancers, singers and guitarists, from both Spain and Germany.

In the lovely summer garden which is the festival’s main venue, on August 10th, Dutch guitarist Tino van der Sman, who has been living and working in Seville for many years, opens the nine-day series.Other highlights include Olga Pericet, along with their partner Daniel Doña, will present their work “Chanta la Mui” on Thursday the 16th, and Saturday, August 18th, the festival closes with the show “Herencia” of Antonio Moya with the collaboration of Tomás de Perrate, Jairo Barrull and guest artists.

As in any festival of this nature, there is a complete program of courses offered by the same artists who are to perform, leading to an intense cultural exchange.
