After several years without recording, expectation was high. Experts
consider Vicente one of the most knowledgeable singers, he’s interpreted
nearly all the styles of flamenco singing and is viewed as a “pure”
artist, in the most positive sense of the word. At the same time, Vicente
Soto “Sordera” has always been interested in updating flamenco
from “within”, as demonstrated by his dedication to bringing
the verses of great poets such as José Hierro, Fernando Pessoa,
Molière, Rubén Darío, José Martí, Unamuno,
Alfonso Reyes and Valle Inclán to flamenco forms.

With “eStar Alegre” Vicente has decided to surprise us all.
There’s no siguiriya or soleá; “eStar Alegre”
is centered on bulerías, alegrías and tangos. The more dramatic
and tragic moments are reserved for another occasion, and the singer unabashedly
expresses the most festive side of flamenco. The magic of this record
is how the gay feeling is maintained without degenerating into superficiality
in the singing or arrangements. The sound is fresh and clean, acoustic
and without synthesized sounds. It draws from the fresh inspiration of
the collaborating musicians: Moraíto, Manuel Parilla, Diego del
Morao, José María Molero on guitar; Irving González
(bass), Joselito «El Boys» and Manuel Soto (percussion); Juañares,
La Chelo de Jerez, Tomasito (chorus); Tomasito, Juañares and Sebitas
(palmas and backup); Josete Ordóñez (mandola). Josete Ordóñez
and Vicente Soto were in charge of the production which is concise and
convincing.

A record for people who want to give in to the attraction of flamenco,
and a work which breaks molds without breaking with tradition.
