Incendio Alburquerque

On Wednesday, December 18th, with Christmas holidays only a few days away, a devastating fire consumed the National Institute of Flamenco.

In Albuquerque, New Mexico where nearly all of flamenco’s top stars from Spain have appeared and taught at one time or another.   The non-profit center is the most important flamenco organization in the United States.

The building was evacuated in time to avoid injuries, but material destruction was  total.  Along with the structure, electronic equipment, wardrobe, treasured photographs and other items have been lost.

The organization had just staged a special Christmas presentation, and now faces the task of rebuilding and reorganizing in order to continue serving the flamenco community they have cultivated over the decades.
