Maya de Silva’s Flamenco Revolución Presents 'Going Forward, Looking Back'

Honoring the Senior Flamenco Singers of New York
April 16-18, 8pm and April 18, 4pm

Flamenco artist Maya de Silva brings her Flamenco Revolución, a company of 12 musicians and dancers, to the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Theatre (120 West 46th Street) for their second New York season, April 16-18. In a show titled “Going Forward, Looking Back,” each performance will honor one of the Senior Flamenco Singers of NY – Luis Vargas on Friday, April 16; Domingo Alvarado on Saturday, April 17; and on Sunday, April 18, the late Paco Ortiz.

With a base of traditional Andalusian dance, Flamenco Revolución is seeking a new road, combining contemporary dance and American ideas with the classic manifestations of Gypsy dance and Spanish Dance. The musicians include guitarists Arturo Martinez (Espiritu Gitano), Jed Miley and Sevillano Alfonso Cid of Gazpacho Andalu; bassist and percussionist Sean Kupisz; and the beats and vocals of Carmen Estevez de Badajoz.

Luis will sing in the concert on Friday, April 16th, on Saturday archival footage will be shown of Domingo and on Sunday there will be footage and posthumous honor of Sr. Ortiz.  Each singer (or his family) will be presented with an engraved brass honorary plaque dedicated to them from the NYC Flamenco Community, thanking them for their contribution to the art.
