Flamenco Festival USA 07

Between January and March of the year which is about to begin, a rich assortment of flamenco artists, youthful as well as veterans, will offer their art at various points throughout the United States and Canada, as well as London.

The
spinal column of the festival is Paco
de Lucía
who will take his music to Montreal, Toronto, San
Francisco, Los Angeles, Miami, Boston, Washington, D.C., New York, New
Jersey and Chicago. Estrella
Morente
will present her show on February 3rd in New York, and Rafafela
Carrasco
has recitals in Boston, New York and Washington, D.C.

A sampling of the best dancing from the recent Bienal de Flamenco de
Sevilla will be presented in one single show with Joaquín Grilo,
Isabel Bayón, Fuensanta la Moneta, Manuel Liñán,
Olga Pericet and Marco Flores in Washington, D.C. y New York, and
Sara Baras
is scheduled to take her company to Washington, New York,
Los Angeles and San Francisco. New York will also have the pleasure of
receiving Gerardo
Núñez
with Carmen Cortés, Córdoba singer
El Pele
and Málaga en Flamenco with Rocío Bazán, and a verdiales
group will give the rustic touch.

On February 28th, coinciding with the Day of Andalucía, at Sadler’s
Wells in London, “La Puerta Abierta”, produced by the Agencia
Andaluza del Flamenco will be presented with dancer Isabel Bayón.
On March 1st the same London stage will showcase Gerardo Núñez
and Carmen Cortés, March 2nd, “Mujeres de Lorca” by
the Carmen Cortés company, in addition to a concert featuring the
trio made up of José Luís Montón, Selene Muñoz
y María Berasarte. Pianist Dorante closes out the series on March
3rd, followed the same days, several hours later, by Antonio Alvarez “Pitingo”
with his “flamenco soul music”.
