FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE MÚSICA Y DANZA DE GRANADA

For the 53rd year running the curtain will rise on the summer season this June in Granada where the Festival Internacional de Música y Danza is set to begin on the 18th of the month. The festival has its origins in the symphonic concerts that were celebrated in the Carlos V Palace since 1883 during the Corpus Christi festival, and the early editions figured as part of the program of events. In modern times the festival has acquired international prestige with artists such as Arthur Rubinstein, Victoria de los Ángeles and Andrés Segovia with a program that includes opera, symphonic music and chamber music in addition to flamenco.

For now, dancer Farruquito is scheduled for June 23rh with his work Alma Vieja, but the organizers have just announced that in the next meeting they will decide whether to maintain the performance of this young man who is currently going through difficult times.

Maestro Paco de Lucía will give his recital on June 26th, and Granada will be able to enjoy their favorite daughter Estrella Morente on the 29th when she offers her show «Pastora 22», a tribute to Pastora Pavón, the singer who was declared «Patrimonio Cultural de Andalucía».

Blanca Li's version of El Amor Brujo includes another woman from Granada , singer Marina Heredia. Rounding out the flamenco offering is the program «Trasnoches flamencos» to be held at the Peña Platería and other typical venues with appearances by such interesting artists as Granada guitarist Emilio Maya and Lebrjia singer José Valencia .
