Farruquito debuts “Abolengo”

14th Festival Mil.lenni. Banc Sabadell

A tribute to traditional flamenco with the choreography of Farruquito and Antonio Canales

Guest artist: Karime Amaya

Teatre Coliseum, Barcelona. January 12th. 9:00pm

“Abolengo”

Juan Manuel Fernández Montoya, “Farruquito” (Seville, 1982) will present the most traditional dancing of the great flamenco families.  His approach is to respect the classic forms, recreating and reflecting the sources from which have come the contributions of so many great artists.  This is precisely the intent this dancer has brought to a show that will be presented at the Mil·lenni festival and which he has titled “Abolengo”, or ‘ancestry’.

The flamenco roots he defends are those of his own background as initiated by his grandfather Farruco, and those of the Amaya familya.  Mexican dancer Karime Amaya, a descendent of Carmen Amaya, is the guest artist in a show that includes choreography inspired in the 1950s, the work of Antonio Canales (who also endorses Karime).  Singers, percussion, guitars and violins accompany the dancer in an hour and a half of pure flamenco structured in five episodes: The Origin, The Path, The Art, The Immortality and the Fiesta Finale.
