Womad city has been set up in Madrid’s Casa de Campo for three days of world music and dance with the participation of performers from 23 countries on four stages mounted in the 150,000 square feet devoted to the event.
The
art of flamenco will be well-represented by the Granada artist accompanied
by guitarist Niño Josele in a show that will reprise pieces from
Omega. Also noteworthy is the presence of the group from Morón
de la Frontera, “Son de la Frontera” under the direction of
Raúl Rodríguez, the freshest flamenco group on the current
scene and which fits in perfectly with the philosophy behind Womad. Other
groups that incorporate flamenco in their work, such as Radio Tarifa or
Concha Buika, the Spanish singer born in Guinea, will also participate.
The flamenco artists sharing the bill with artists like Femi Kuti, Toto
La Momposina, Asere, N'Faly Kouyate & Dunyakan will fill the four
stages, workshops, cabaret and market.
