Carolina Lugo's Brisas de España Proudly presents Antonio Vargas

Renowned International Flamenco Artist from Spain Antonio Vargas was born into a family of musicians and dancers in Casablanca. Antonio was attracted to flamenco at a very early age, having been exposed to it by his aunts who were also flamenco dancers.

 

As
soon as he was old enough, he escaped to Spain and immersed himself into
the mecca of flamenco, learning with the best teachers such as Antonio
Marin, who was his main teacher, Antonio Gades, Mario Maya, El Guito,
Manolete and Cristina Hoyos. He not only studied dance but also the flamenco
guitar. At the age of 18, he was asked to join the Pilar Lopez Dance Company
followed by the Rafael de Cordoba Company and toured with these companies
throughout Europe and South America. He formed his own dance company in
1962 and has toured with them throughout Europe, South America, Asia,
U.S. and Australia, where he now resides. *The list of Antonio's works
is extensive, having worked in Opera, the film industry in Australia and
Hollywood with Actor, Tom Cruise and Director, John Woo and in London
with the Beatles, Paul McCartney. Antonio is a Master Teacher and Artist
of Flamenco and Spanish Dance touring internationally several times, presenting
Workshops and Master Classes at Major Universities and Cities throughout
the U.S., Asia and Europe.

Thursday, April 1st – Workshop Kick off!

*Fiesta Flamenca

Intense 2-Hour Workshop-Fee= $50.00 {Single workshop only}
8:00 PM to 10:00 P.M. This is a 2-hour workshop on Fiesta Style Flamenco
which will emphasize the dances that are often performed at Festival's
and Fiestas in Spain. This workshop is appropriate for all levels of ability
and will teach material not covered in the regular workshops on Friday,
Saturday and Sunday. ** Antonio will concentrate on Compas & Palmas
for the first hour and Bulerias for the second hour. ** Enrollment in
this class is highly recommended.

*** Workshop Registration Details ***
A minimum of 10 pre-registered students per workshop class is required
in order for classes to be held. Single classes can be taken on a drop
in fee basis of $35.00 per class. Pre-enrollment is strongly encouraged.
Pre-registration must be received no later than March 27th, 2004. An additional
fee of $10.00 will be charged for late registration at the door. Classes
are priced as follows;

5-6 classes……..$30.00 per class
1-4 classes……..$40.00 per class
{Students registered for all 4-days pay $40.00 for the Thursday, April
1st workshop}

** NOTE-A 10% discount will be applied for Full and Early registration
of the Regular workshops, Friday thru Sunday, if received by March 26th
**All Classes will be held at the Dance Connection Performing Arts Center
in Concord, CA at 2956-I Treat Boulevard, {Behind Trader Joe's Market}
1-mile from Pleasant Hill BART Station. Please make checks payable to
