A commemorative plaque will mark the location where the legendary Casa Pepe once stood

“On this corner stood ‘Casa Pepe’, run by José
Rodríguez Camacho and family (1955-1980). A meeting place of artists
and flamenco fans, local and foreign, a place where impassioned followers
of the art of flamenco would gather, an authentic natural stage where
flamenco was cultivated in its purest state, particularly Morón-style
guitar, “toque de Morón”, unmistakable symbol of the
cultural identity of this town”.

Thus
reads the text that will appear on a commemorative plaque that has been
approved by the municipal government of Morón de la Frontera in
response to a proposition presented by the Foro Cultural Flamenco. The
official announcement reads as follows:

“On the 4th of May, 2006 the proposition of the Foro Cultural
Flamenco “Morón 2004” to place a ceramic plaque on
the front of the building where ‘Casa Pepe’ once stood, was
approved.

The Foro Cultural Flamenco considers it to be of great interest for Morón
to recognize and preserve everything which conforms the flamenco identity
in this town.

“Casa Pepe” was a meeting-place for flamenco fans from Spain
and abroad where some of the town’s greatest artists were formed
in the most brilliant years of the its history. It was here the “toque
de Morón” became famous thanks to its main architect, Diego
del Gastor.

With this initiative the Foro hopes to recuperate for posterity the memory
of that golden age of flamenco, for locals as well as visitors to the
places where flamenco flourished
