49th Potaje Gitano de Utrera

June 25th, 2005. Utrera (Sevilla)

The
program for the 49th annual flamenco festival, the Potaje Gitano de Utrera,
has been revealed although the official presentation will not take place
until shortly before the festival is held.

Spain’s first flamenco festival which next year will be a half-century
old, has just announced the artists scheduled to perform in this year’s
edition on June 25th at the Salesianos.

In the first part, Lebrija’s Miguel Funi will offer his characteristic
singing from the Pinini clan, and his elegant dance which identifies him
almost as much as the white scarf without which he is never seen. The
cante star of the night is Esperanza Fernández, who has close family
ties with Utrera.

This year’s festival brings a wealth of dance talent, with two
top-flight groups. Antonio el Pipa will fill the first part with his personal
style and Jerez ambience, and the second part closes out with La Farruca,
mother of Farruquito, who will perform with her son Farruco and nephew
Barullo. Before that, the audience will be treated to a group of Utrera’s
finest aficionados with their unmistakable sound.

Lolita, Lola Flores’ eldest daughter, is to receive the tribute
the festival always offers to a relevant personality. Last year the presence
of Alejandro Sanz brought three thousand people, and this year expectations
are high to repeat the success.
