The twelfth Festival de Jerez will revolve around the motif of time

The festival, whose program has just been unveiled, is to be held from February 22nd to March 8th of 2008, and includes 50 shows at a variety of venues integrating all the artistic tendencies of flamenco and Spanish dance.

There will also be series given over to cante, guitar and fusion music, in addition to 36 workshops and a diversity of complementary activities

The show ¡Viva Jerez!, will feature dancers María del Mar Moreno and Mercedes Ruiz and  the singing of Fernando Terremoto; Mujeres.  Another work that combines different generations, will star Merche Esmeralda, Belén Maya and Rocío Molina. Flamenco XXI: ópera, café y puro, under the direction of  Estévez-Paños Dospormedio & Cía, is scheduled as well.

Other featured artists include Eva Yerbabuena, Manuela Carrasco, Israel Galván, Rafael Amargo, Antonio El Pipa, Andrés Marín, Isabel Bayón and the company Nuevo Ballet Español, not to mention the famous Farruco family, headed by Farru and Barullo. Cante will be represented at the Villamarta by Miguel Poveda, and guitar, by Manolo Sanlúcar in a show with El Güito titled ‘Maestros’.

During the presentation much was made about the desire to open new fields that go beyond traditional flamenco, as well as giving young artists a chance to show what they can do.  The series De la frontera and Los Novísimos, will be held at the Sala Compañía with artists like Miguel Ángel Berna, Malucos, Mayte Bajo, Marco Vargas, María José León, Patricia Guerrero, Fran Espinosa and Leonor Leal. The same venue will receive the series Solos en Compañía and Con nombre propio with fine young professionals like Marco Flores, Manuela Ríos, María Juncal and El Mistela.  The series Con nombre propio includes the work of Rafaela Carrasco (Concierto gusto) y La Truco, Inmaculada Ortega, La Talegona y Miguel Cañas (Mujeres en esencia).

The famous Conciertos de Palacio is the venue for acoustic cante recitals, this year, with the young voices of Elu de Jerez, Juan Pinilla, Sonia Miranda and David Palomar among others.

Cante, guitar and flamenco fusión is the offering at the Bodega de los Apóstoles de González-Byass with the voices of José Menese, Calixto Sánchez, Capullo de Jerez, Ezequiel Benítez and Antonio Malena, just to name a few.  The guitar series Bordón y cuenta nueva includes Pedro Sierra and a group under the direction of Bolita, while the Café cantante features singers David Lagos, Encarna Anillo and Jesús Torres in addition to the popular band Son de la Frontera.

Thirty-six courses will offer 900 people instruction by Matilde Coral, Angelita Gómez, Javier Latorre, Manolo Marín, Merche Esmeralda, Lola Greco, El Pipa, Javier Barón, Isabel Bayón, Inmaculada Aguilar, Rafael Campallo, Mercedes Ruiz and Ana María López, among others.

PARALLEL FESTIVAL

This includes complementary series, some from previous years and some new.
The program will be announced in February, and some of the series are:
CONSERVATORIO DE MÚSICA – CICLO PIANO FLAMENCO – SALA LA GRANJA – CICLO FLAMENCO PA’ TOOS – PEÑAS FLAMENCAS – CICLO TRASNOCHES – LOCALES PRIVADOS – ACTUACIONES DE ARTISTAS FLAMENCOS – ACTUACIONES DJ’S / CHILL-OUT.

Daily press conferences open to the public which offer a dialogue with participating artists as well as investigators, authors and other specialists, with complimentary sherry included.
