Cante de las Minas presentación

At the Corral de la Morería, the President of the Fundación Cante de las Minas and mayor of La Unión, Pedro López Milán, presented the program of the  LIX Edición of the Festival  Internacional del Cante de las Minas to be held July 31st to August 10th

COMPLETE PROGRAM

Artists such as Alba Heredia, El Pele, Jeromo Segura,  José Mercé, Pedro Granaino,  Farruquito,  Samuel Serrano and El Cabrero are featured in the flamenco shows, and Pasión Vega will give a special concert.

This year the Castillete de Oro is for José Domínguez El Cabrero and the Brigada Central de salvamento Minero de Asturias. The Republic of Argentina will receive the distinction ‘Catedral del Cante’.

Pedro López Milán was accompanied for the presentation by the artistic director and owner of the Corral de la Morería, Blanca del Rey and managing director, Juan Manuel del Rey, and the governmental delegate of the Region of Murcia, Francisco Javier Jiménez, in addition to Alba Heredia and El Pele, both featured in the flamenco shows.

“A different sort of festival, conceived with the strength of La Unión in 1961, with the sole mission of defending the Levante repertoire, which from the outset has attracted the best flamenco artists, a venue that will bring much success to the winners”

Blanca del Rey, artistic director and owner of the Corral de la Morería, will receive the ‘Desplante Honorífico 2019’ for having made a great contribution to the Festival, the Desplante prize, which in the 58th edition held last year was divided into Men’s and Women’s prize categories. In the words of Blanca del Rey, “I’ve suffered for so many years seeing the unfairness of men and women competing…anyone who dances, does so freely”.

During the presentation, the President of the Fundación Cante de las Minas took advantage of the moment to reveal that “El Pele” will form part of the jury for this year’s Festival.

Pedro López Milán commented that “the Festival belongs to everyone, we need administrative support in order to be able to protect and maintain flamenco”, in addition to words of praise for everyone who contributes to making the Festival a reality, and for the Fundación Lázaro Galdiano for their willingness and commitment in allowing use of the work of Francisco de Goya which illustrates the poster of the Festival’s 59 edition.

El Presidente de la Fundación Cante de las Minas, durante la presentación ha aprovechado para desvelar que ‘El Pele’ en esta edición 2019 formará parte del jurado del Festival”.
