Winners announced of the Giraldillos of the 13th Bienal de Flamenco

Manolo Sanlúcar is awarded the Premio Extraordinario


On December 13th in a meeting of the Advisory Committee of the Thirteenth
Bienal of Arte Flamenco chaired by Manuel Copete director of the Bienal,
who abstained from voting, the Giraldillo prizes were distributed as described
below.

 

 

Members of the awards committee:

– Manuel Cepero, of the Fundación Machado
– Manuel Herrera, flamenco programmer for El Monte
– José Mª Segovia, President of the Federación Provincial
de Peñas Flamencas de Sevilla.
– José Mª Mellado, music director of the Diputación
de Sevilla
– Cristina Cruces, of the Universidad de Sevilla
– Alfonso Tierra, of the Instituto Andaluz de la Juventud.
– Jesús Cantero, director of the Casa de la Provincia.
– Alberto Bandrés, representative for the Consejería de
Cultura.
– Antonio Zoido, of the Consejería de Turismo.

Tras las deliberaciones oportunas, los Premios Giraldillo de la Bienal
quedan otorgados de la siguiente manera:

After due deliberation the Giraldillo prizes were awarded as follows:

  • 1. Giraldillo for the Best Best Original Script:
    for the work “Alicia” of the Cía. Los Ulen.
  • 2. Giraldillo for the Best Original Music : “A
    cuatro voces” for the Ballet Flamenco Eva Yerbabuena.
  • 3. Giraldillo for the Best Choreography: María
    Pagés for “Canciones antes de una Guerra”.
  • 4. Giraldillo for the Best Artistic Direction: a
    José Mª Sánchez “Canciones Antes de una Guerra”
    de Cía. De María Pagés.
  • 5. Giraldillo for the Best Solo Singer: shared by
    Segundo Falcón and Carmen Linares.
  • 6. Giraldillo for the Best Solo Guitarist: awarded
    by unanimous vote to Gerardo Núñez for “Andando
    el Tiempo”.
  • 7. Giraldillo for the Best Solo Dancer: Israel Galván
    for “Arena”.
    8. Giraldillo for the Best Soloist with Other Instruments:
    Diego Amador for “Piano Jondo”.
  • 9. Giraldillo for the Best Cante of Accompaniment:
    Enrique El Extremeño, for his interpretation in various works.
  • 10. Giraldillo for the Best Guitar of Accompaniment:
    Manolo Franco, for his interpretation in various works.
  • 11. Giraldillo for the Best Accompanist with Other Instruments:
    Pedro Ricardo Miño, for his interpretation in various works.
  • 12. Giraldillo for the Best Cuerpo de Baile: Compañía
    María Pagés for “Canciones Antes de una Guerra”.
  • 13. Giraldillo for the Best Grupo de Acompañamiento:
    Orquestas Chekkara de Tetuán and Maharajá de Rajasthan
    for Segundo Falcón’s “Tierra de Nadie”.
  • 14. Giraldillo for the Best Vestuario: Batas de
    Cola of Milagros Mengíbar in El Güito’s “De
    Madrid a Sevilla”.
  • 15. Giraldillo for the Best New Talent: José
    Valencia.

Under the auspices of the firm Solear Barbadillo the Special Prize for
Best Soleá went to José Menese.

Another new edition was the Special Prize for Best Production which went
to the Teatro La Zambra.

The jury also agreed to incorporate a new prize for the Most Magical
Moment given to Manuel Molina and Pepa Montes for that momentary encounter.

Another addition is the 25th Anniversary Awards in recognition of a lifetime
career in dance, guitar and cante:
– Premio 25 Aniversario for cante: Antonio Fernández Díaz
“Fosforito”.
– Premio 25 Aniversario for dance: Manuela Carrasco.
– Premio 25 Aniversario for guitar: Víctor Monje “Serranito”.

The Special Bienal Prize, awarded on only two occasions, to Matilde Coral
and Antonio Gades, went to Manolo Sanlúcar in recognition of his
importance within the world of flamenco and his longstanding commitment
to the Bienal.

Lastly, Special Mention for Journalism went to Manuel Curao for 25 years
of reporting on the Bienal.

The Giraldillos voted on by audiences and as well as the Miguel Acal
prize will be announced in a short time.
