A gypsy from Antequera came to Málaga en Flamenco to present his first recording.  The place chosen was the lovely town of Álora, at the foot of the Guadalhorce mountains.   The former Arabic orchard opened the doors of its brand-new theater for the occasion.  The menu of cante included sounds of Jerez, birthplace of Tía Anica la Periñaca, great-grandmother of Luis no less.

The first tribute of the evening was for guitarist Paco de Antequera, as expressed in the verse of a malagueña.  Soleá de Alcalá, then siguiriya, with that “taste of blood” Tía Anica told Caballero Bonald she felt when she sang.  This young man from Antequera is studious and professional, knowing how to communicate with his audience at every moment, explaining memories that trigger each cante.  Needless to say, all the verses are by Luis himself.  The fandangos are in honor of his daughter Macarena, and “that bad underworld of drugs”.  He was very ably accompanied by Málaga guitarist Chaparro.

The mood of the recital turned festive with the arrival on stage of palmeros from Utrera, and the second guitar of Joaquín Orillo.  The singer’s admiration for Cádiz is reflected in the alegrías, and he then sings a rumba “Vente tú Conmigo”, the title theme of the recording which came out several months ago with Cumbayá Records, also in Antequera.  From this point on, it was pure Jerez.  First a nod to Francisco Rivera, whom he considers a close friend.  Then Perdiguero received Diego del Morao on stage, and interpreted cante of famous Jerez singers, especially Tío Borrico, Luis de la Pica and Juan Moneo “El Torta” whose new record we’re anxious to hear in a few weeks.  The show ended with a gypsy fiesta in the purest stye of Jerez which had to be repeated several times at the audience’s insistence.
